Did I just get scammed by this carpet cleaner?
Bill, you did not say what type of cleaning process this fellow used. My company pulls up to the home with $30,000 in equipment, therefore we have to have a minimum charge to come out on minimal cleaning, especially with the price of gasoline at this time. Our vans and equipment all run on gas. We always ask the customer if they can vacuum the carpet before we get there, if they don't, and it is quite dirty, we charge up to 25 dollars for this service, using $600.00 dollar HEPA vacuum cleaners. We probably would not have charged for the burger stain, but we do charge extra for pet stains and kool aid type stains, as special chemical solutions are used on these spills. Most women do not appreciate anything smelly put on there carpet, therefore, the only slight odor left behind when we clean is from the citric acid that we use in our rinse water to lower the PH of the carpet and also, to help remove any residual soap from our pre spray. We also use machines called Rx20's that out work a person on a wand by about 50 times. These machines cost $3200.00 each. The next time you need a cleaner, go to www.iicrc.org, to locate a pro, who is certified and insured, and knows what he is doing. Hot water extraction (HWE) is the process recommended by almost every carpet manufacturer in the country. No carpet cleaner worth his salt can afford to drive out to a home and clean a carpet for $39.99. I doubt if this fellow had van mounted equipment.
